Shirley Opens 2020 Season at Vado Speedway Park

Kicking off the 2020 season, Brian Shirley traveled to Vado Speedway Park (Vado, N.M.) over the weekend to enter the inaugural Battle at the Border with the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series.

Drawing 42 entries on Friday night, Shirley charged to a third-place finish in his heat race after starting eighth. Starting the $5,000-to-win A-Main in ninth, Brian advanced two spots in the 30-lap affair to place seventh. (James Racing Photography)

On Saturday, Shirley locked his place in $5,000-to-win feature by winning a Last Chance Showdown. In the 30-lap main event, the Illinois driver advanced from his 17th-place starting position to register and 11th-place place finish.

Sunday's finale of the Battle at the Border boasted a $15,000 top prize. Brian secured a starting spot in the 75-lap A-Main by placing fourth in his heat race. After starting 16th in the main event, Shirley retired early to a 23rd-place finish in the final rundown.
