Shirley Lands Podium Finish in MARS Action at Davenport

Brian Shirley set out for a busy weekend in this Bob Cullen Racing No. 3s that kicked off on Thursday at Fairbury Speedway. Shirley was one of 32 entries on hand for the Summer Showcase. Finishing third in his heat race, Shirley locked into the 11th starting spot for the $5,000-to-win A-Main. Brian was running in the seventh spot when a broken shock in the closing laps forced him to retire from the race. He was credited with a 16th place finish.

On Thursday, the team traveled to Davenport (Iowa) Speedway to compete with the MARS Racing Series. Shirley once again earned the 11th spot on the feature grid after he placed fourth in his heat race. Advancing eight spots in the $5,000-to-win main event, Brian finished third behind race winner Frank Heckenast Jr., and Allen Weisser. Chris Simpson and Brian Birkhofer rounded out the Top-5.

Following the MARS Racing Series to Pepsi Lee County Speedway (Donnellson, Iowa) on Friday, Shirley started the night by setting the overall fast time in qualifying and winning his heat race. Starting the $5,000-to-win feature from outside the front row, Brian took control at the drop of the green flag and never looked back, leading all 30 laps of the feature. Unfortunately, Shirley's No. 3s failed to meet the minimum post-race weight requirement, disqualifying him from the event.

Saturday's event at Peoria (Ill.) Speedway was rained out.
