The action kicked off on Tuesday night at Beaver Dam Raceway. Brian started his outing by timing in second in his qualifying group. He went on to finish second in his heat race, earning him a spot in the redraw. Starting eighth in the $10,000-to-win feature, Shirley advance four spots in the 50-lapper to finish fourth behind Jimmy Owens, Billy Moyer, and Cade Dillard. Kyle Bronson rounded out the Top-5 finishers.
Shirley and the Bob Cullen Racing team made the trek to Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wis.) on Thursday for the opening round of the 33rd Annual USA Nationals. In a $6,000-to-win preliminary feature on Thursday, Brian finished third in his heat race to lock into the 11th starting position on the feature grid. Slipping two spots in the 30-lap affair, Shirley record a 13th-place finish.
The following night for a pair of passing points heat races, Shirley placed second in his first-round heat race before passing five cars in his second heat race to finish third. Sitting fifth overall in passing points, Brian earned a spot in the pole dash. Advancing three spots to finish second, Shirley locked into the second-starting spot for Saturday night's USA Nationals finale.
With $50,000 up for grabs on Saturday, Brian suffered a flat left-rear tire on the opening circuit of the 100-lapper. Restarting on the tail of the field after a trip to the work area for a new tire, Shirley worked his way forward to salvage a 13th-place finish.
