Shirley Enjoys Trio of Top-5 Finishes in East Bay Winternationals

On Monday night at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Fla., Brian Shirley kicked off the opening round of the Wrisco Industries Winternationals. Brian qualified second in his time trial group before going on to finish second in his heat race. Locked into the tenth-starting position for the $5,000-to-win feature, Shirley was an early retiree from the 30-lap affair. He was credited with a 30th place outing. For another $5,000-to-win program on Tuesday, Brian followed up the overall fast time in qualifying with an eight-lap heat race win. Starting the 30-lap feature in second, Shirley slipped one spot to finish third behind Tyler Erb and Brandon Overton at the checkered flag. Josh Richards and Kyle Bronson rounded out the Top-5. The following night, Shirley timed in third fastest in his qualifying group before registering a third-place finish in his heat race. After Mother Nature forced officials to postpone Wednesday night’s feature to Thursday night, Shirley muscled forward 13 spots to record a fourth-place finish behind Josh Richards, Brandon Overton, and Hudson O’Neal. Devin Moran completed the Top-5 finishers.

In Thursday’s regularly scheduled program, Brian grabbed a heat race victory to secure the third-starting position on the feature grid. Settling two spots in the 40-lap affair, Shirley crossed the finish line in fifth behind Stormy Scott, Kyle Bronson, Tim McCreadie, and Frank Heckenast Jr.

On Friday, Brian followed up the fastest time in his qualifying group with a 10-lap heat race victory. With $12,000 on the line, Shirley led 20 of the first 25 laps but faded before retiring on lap 34.

Wrapping up the 45th Annual Wrisco Industries Winternationals on Saturday, Shirley posted a seventh-place finish in his heat race. Failing to place second or better in the B-Main, Brian had to rely on a provisional to start the $15,000-to-win finale. Shirley was an early retiree from the 50-lapper on lap 11.
