Shirley Wraps Up LOLMDS Speedweeks at Bubba

For the third stop on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Florida Speedweeks slate, Brian Shirley was one of 49 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series entries to converge at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala. (Heath Lawson photo) Following the fastest time in his qualifying group and a convincing heat race victory, Shirley earned the pole position for the $10,000-to-win feature. Brian was battling with Ricky Thornton Jr. for third on lap 13 when contact from the front of Thornton’s car to the right-rear corner of Shirley’s machine sent Shirley spinning and knocked the veteran Illinois racer out of contention.

For the $10,000-to-win finale on Tuesday, Brian came in second in his heat race to lock into the sixth-starting position for the A-Main. Shirley raced among the Top-10 for much of the 50-lapper before fading to an 11th-place finish in the finale rundown.
