Pair of runner-up finishes in Thaw Brawl at La Salle Speedway

Brian Shirley invaded La Salle Speedway (LaSalle, Ill.) on Friday night to pilot the Bob Cullen Racing No. 3s Late Model for the 10th annual Thaw Brawl. In a field of 23 MARS Racing Series entries, Brian secured his spot into the opening night feature with a heat race victory. Taking part in a heated battle for the lead late in the race, Shirley came up short at the line to place second, trailing Ryan Unzicker to the checkers. On Saturday afternoon, Shirley started the night off with a heat race win, which positioned him second on the starting grid for the $12,000-to-win Thaw Brawl finale. Stealing the lead from polesitter Tanner English on the opening circuit, Brian led the first 31 laps until Garrett Alberson snuck by. He went to finish second in the 60-lapper, following Alberson across the line with English, Ryan Unzicker, and Jason Feger rounding out the Top-5.
