Fourth-place finish in Hoker 50 at Davenport

Brian Shirley entered MARS Racing Series action on Tuesday afternoon at Davenport Speedway (Davenport, Iowa) for the Hoker 50. With a second-place finish in his heat race lining him up fifth on the starting grid for the $10,000-to-win A-Main, Shirley gained one spot on the multi-groove surface to register a fourth-place finish. Picking back up on Friday, Shirley headed to Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.) to compete in a stout field of 74 World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series entries for the 31st annual Prairie Dirt Classic weekend. With the field split into two groups for time trials, Shirley’s 12th fastest qualifying lap locked him into the sixth-starting position for his $3,000-to-win preliminary feature. Needing to finish fourth or better to make the main event on Saturday night, Brian passed three cars to finish third.

Starting Saturday night’s $50,000-to-win Prairie Dirt Classic in 10th, Brian was an early retiree from the 100-lapper on lap 40.
