With the 124-car field split into two groups for a pair of $12,000-to-win preliminary features, Brian edged his way into the prelim with the fifth-and-final transfer spot in his heat race. Inching forward two spots in the 25-lap affair, Shirley logged an 18th-place outing.
Later Thursday night for heat races leading up to the Eldora Million, Shirley posted an eighth-place finish in his heat, relegating him into the B-Main for another shot at the $1,002,022-to-win main event. Needing to place second or better, Brian recorded a ninth-place finish.
For the Dirt Late Model Dream XXVIII on Friday afternoon, Brian charged from the third row in his heat race to pick up the 10-lap victory. Earning the pole positon for the preliminary feature, Shirley led 16 circuits before ultimately setting with a runner-up finish when the checkered flag flew. He followed Chris Madden across the line with Tyler Erb rounding out the podium.
On Saturday evening, Shirley grabbed a third-place finish in his heat, which positioned him 18th on the starting grid for the $128,000-to-win Dirt Late Model Dream. He was running in 15th when continuous rain postponed the remainder of the 100-lapper to September 7th.
