After missing a transfer spot by one position in his heat with a fourth-place finish, Shirley streaked to a 10-lap consolation victory. Earning the 20th-starting position for the opening night feature, Brian was an early retiree from the 50-lapper after slipping over the turn-four banking on lap 36.
For another $22,022-to-win A-Main on Thursday at Lincoln Speedway (Lincoln, Ill.), Shirley jumped up two spots in his heat race to place second. Rolling off 10th for the main event, Brian dropped three spots in the 50-lap affair to finish 13th.
On Friday evening at Farmer City Raceway (Farmer City, Ill.) for the MARS Racing Series-sanctioned Farmer City 74 presented by Douglas Dodge, Brian followed up the fifth-fastest time in his group with a 10-lap heat victory. With $15,000 on the line in the feature, Shirley notched a ninth-place finish.
To wrap up the inaugural Illinois Speedweek, Shirley stopped at Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.) on Saturday for the Titan Industries FALS Spring Shootout. In a field of 50 cars, Brian secured his spot into the $30,000-to-win finale with a runner-up finish in his heat. Carrying a steady pace throughout, Shirley recorded a 10th-place outing.
