Top-10 finish at East Bay Raceway Park
On Monday night, Bob Cullen Motorsports pilot Brian Shirley was one of 70 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) competitors entered at East Bay Raceway Park (Gibsonton, Fla.) for the Wrisco Winternationals. Following a fifth-place finish in his heat race, Shirley missed a transfer spot by two positions in his B-Main with a fourth-place finish. (Heath Lawson photo)
After Mother Natured axed Tuesday’s program, Brian’s second-place finish in his heat race on Wednesday lined him up 12th on the starting grid for the feature. Holding his spot in the 40-lapper, Shirley crossed the line in 12th.
For another $7,000-to-win A-Main on Thursday, Shirley clocked in third-fastest in his group before picking up a 10-lap consolation victory. Rolling off fifth for the feature, Brian snuck ahead of Brandon Overton for the lead on lap 21 but surrendered the top spot to Brandon Sheppard one circuit later. He slipped back to finish 10th after tagging the wall on lap 28.
The following night, Brian fell one spot short of a transfer position in his heat with a fourth-place finish. Taking the Top 2 from the B-Main, Shirley was running in a transfer spot when he smacked the turn-two wall, ending his night.
For the finale on Saturday, Shirley came in fourth in his heat, giving him one last shot at the A-Main with a B-Main appearance. Transferring the Top 2, Brian fell one spot short with a third-place finish.
