Brian Shirley

Bob Cullen Racing attends Super Bowl of Racing at GIS

Brian Shirley and Bob Cullen Racing returned on the 2022 Georgia-Florida Speedweeks grind at Golden Isles Speedway (Brunswick, Ga.) as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) opened the season with the Super Bowl of Racing. In a field of 47 Late Models, Brian edged his way into the opening night feature with the third-and-final transfer spot in his heat race. Starting the feature in 16th, Shirley was the first retiree of the race on the ninth circuit with a shredded left-rear tire. (Heath Lawson photo)

On Friday afternoon, Shirley’s seventh-place finish in his heat relegated him into the B-Main for another shot at the A-Main. Locking in the Top 2, Brian fell short with a 13th-place outing.

For the finale on Saturday, Brian grabbed the third-and-final transfer spot in his heat, which positioned him 16th on the starting grid for the $15,000-to-win A-Main. Pulling off early late in the race, Shirley withdrew from competition on lap 37.
