Brian Shirley second in Knoxville Nationals with Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series
Joining the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series for the weekend, Brian Shirley and the Bob Cullen Racing team headed to Iowa for the 20th-annual Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway.
With 40 Late Models on hand for a pair of preliminary nights, Shirley charged to a Top-10 finish in his preliminary feature on Thursday before finishing 11th in his second $7,000-to-win feature on Friday night.
Racing the rain on Saturday afternoon, Shirley was automatically locked into the $50,000-to-win main event where he would start 15th. Slowly making his way through the field, Brian would find himself inside the Top-3 in the closing laps. Shirley came up short of catching race-winner Bobby Pierce and settled for a runner-up finish while Devin Moran completed the podium.
